Bloomington was our first stop for a night. And our first confrontation to the influence of cars on a city. The road is the key element. Without it, there would be no motels nor "restaurants". We quickly found a motel thanks to our blackberries (it was 10pm) that supposedly had "restaurants at walking distance". We soon found out that "restaurant" meant fast-foods at every corner of the highways such as McDonalds, Wendys, Taco Bell, Poppey, etc and that "walking" was impossible as there were no sidewalks for pedestrians to cross the 4 lane "road" (highway). We were on an island. In order to have our delicate double cheeseburgers 20 meters away from our motel, we had to jump in our car to cross the ocean of traffic. Welcome to GM's empire.
Next we traveled through Funk's Grove, McLean (hint to Lea's family members), Lincoln, Broadwell, Springfield, Litchfield, Mitchell, St Louis where we got to see the Arch, Pacific and finally to Stanton where we stayed the night at the Meramec Caverns Motel.
